Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams became a meme and the subject of unfair narratives when he draped a towel over his head while carted off the field in Week 2 of the NFL season.
Williams suffered a hamstring injury, though he has since stated that “every single” report about the severity of his injury has been wrong. The 2024 No. 1 overall pick returned and declared himself “inevitable” last week, and it’s undeniable that Williams keeps tabs on what’s said about him and the Bears.

On Thursday Night Football, the Bears beat the visiting New England Patriots, 30-24. Williams and Luther Burden III, the game’s leading receiver, joined the TNF Nightcap desk afterward, and Williams told Richard Sherman he’s keeping an eye on him.
“That time off, it added a little bit more to me,” Williams said. “And I’m gonna keep using it. I’m gonna keep bringing that energy, that fire in my eyes. I’m gonna release it to my teammates and, hopefully, to the fans. They feel my energy. Hopefully, we can get in your Top 5.”
Sherman laughed through a gaping smile and slapped the desk. “I like that, Caleb!” he said. “He watches the podcast.”

“I see it all,” Williams confirmed.
On Wednesday’s episode of The Richard Sherman Podcast, Sherman and his co-host Mitch Eisenstein delivered their Top 5 lists. Eisenstein had the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings, and Patriots. Sherman agreed with the first four of Eisenstein’s five, but he swapped the Patriots out for the Bears at No. 5.
“No. 5, I do not agree with you, with the New England Patriots,” Sherman said on his podcast. “I got them losing Thursday night to the Chicago Bears and Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams. I think they’re gonna be too much for them. That’s why I’m not gonna put them in that spot, just to bounce them out in a week. Give me the Bears at 5.”
Back at the TNF Nightcap desk, Sherman told everyone he picked the Bears over the Patriots and saw them as a top-5 team. Williams smiled and nodded before muttering, “Let’s go.” It was all in good fun, just like that viral Bears locker room video.
