Questions surrounding Shedeur Sanders‘ decision to hire an agent last month have sparked speculation about his future in Cleveland. The rookie quarterback is now drawing attention ahead of the Browns’ Week 9 matchup, but he declined to explain the move during Wednesday’s media availability, choosing instead to keep the focus on football.

When reporters asked about his decision to hire an agent last month, Sanders quickly pushed back. “What’s that have to do with this game?” Sanders responded. “I’m focused on this game. Anything else really doesn’t matter at this point.” As reported by NBC Sports, the quarterback made the move despite having limited opportunities to renegotiate his contract before the end of the 2027 regular season.
Sanders’ decision has fueled speculation about his long-term future in Cleveland. Some have raised the possibility that he could eventually seek a fresh start elsewhere. The timing also drew comparisons to Marvin Harrison Jr., who hired an agent before the Arizona Cardinals traded him to the Houston Texans.

A trade before the NFL deadline appears unlikely. However, a potential start on Sunday gives Sanders a chance to showcase his abilities and attract interest from other teams.

His performance could also shape Cleveland’s quarterback plans for next season. Sanders completed 120 of 212 passes for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in eight games last season, including seven starts. This year, he has appeared in two games but attempted only three passes, completing all of them for two yards.
With limited playing time this season, Sunday’s matchup against the Saints gives Sanders a chance to prove himself. A strong performance could strengthen his case for a larger role in Cleveland next season.
