In his postgame press conference, Watson admitted that he became a little “teary-eyed” after hearing the Browns fans erupt when he returned to the field following a play on the sideline.
“It’s amazing. It’s great. I just wanted to finish the job for them. So, yeah, it was one moment I got a little teary-eyed, just feeling that energy. Because, I put so much work to get back here to be in this moment here, to be able to show that I can finish these drives, finish these games, and get W’s for the city and this organization,” Watson said (h/t Fred Greetham of Orange and Brown Rpt).

Throughout the offseason, there was speculation about whether Watson could lose his starting quarterback role to Shedeur Sanders. Watson competed with Sanders throughout training camp and the preseason, ultimately securing the starting job before Week 1.

Watson then delivered when Cleveland needed him most. The veteran quarterback orchestrated a 65-yard, fourth-quarter game-winning drive to secure the Browns’ victory over Carolina. It was his second consecutive game-winning drive after he previously engineered a comeback victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2.
Watson finished Sunday’s game with 144 passing yards and two touchdowns while adding 45 rushing yards on 11 carries. Through three games, he has accumulated 587 passing yards, five touchdowns, one interception, a 68% completion rate, and a 112.9 passer rating.
The Browns have now improved to 2-1 on the season, marking the first time Cleveland has held a winning record since the 2023 season.
