Jimmy Horn Jr. has found a new home after leaving the Carolina Panthers. The Cleveland Browns have added the former Colorado receiver and returner to their practice squad, giving him another chance to stick in the NFL.
The move also brings a familiar reunion. Horn spent two seasons alongside Shedeur Sanders at Colorado from 2023 to 2024, and the two will now reconnect at the professional level with the Browns.

The Cleveland Browns have added Jimmy Horn Jr. to their practice squad. The wide receiver and returner found a new opportunity soon after leaving the Carolina Panthers. Carolina selected Horn in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he entered the league with the Panthers.
Horn played against the Chicago Bears in the Panthers’ Week 1 game and handled return duties. He muffed a punt during the game, after which the Panthers waived him. At the same time, Carolina promoted linebacker Tyrel Dodson to the active roster. Cleveland then gave Horn another opportunity by signing him to its practice squad.

The 5-foot-8, 174-pound receiver is also known for his speed. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds at the 2025 NFL Combine. Before entering the NFL, Horn spent two seasons with the Colorado Buffaloes.
During his two seasons with the Buffaloes, Horn recorded 95 catches for 1,008 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2023, he had 58 receptions for 567 yards and six touchdowns. In 2024, he added 37 receptions for 441 yards and one touchdown. Along with his production as a receiver, his speed gave him the ability to make plays in the open field.
He also handled kickoff and punt return duties, giving him experience as both a receiver and a special teams player.
In a post announcing Horn’s signing, the Browns said, “#Browns announce the previously reported signing of Shedeur Sanders‘ former Colorado WR/returner Jimmy Horn to the practice squad. To make room, they waived WR Kole Wilson.”

Horn also has a previous connection with Shedeur Sanders from their time together at Colorado. The two were college teammates, and they are now together again with the Cleveland Browns.
Jimmy Horn Jr. quickly found another NFL opportunity after leaving the Carolina Panthers. The move gives Horn another chance to compete for a roster spot after spending Week 1 with Carolina.
The Browns already have several players competing for roles at receiver and on special teams. Jerry Jeudy and Tylan Wallace are among the receivers on the Week 2 depth chart, along with Denzel Boston, Malachi Corley, KC Concepcion Jr. and Isaiah Bond. Corley is listed as the kick returner, while Concepcion and Boston are listed as punt returners. Horn could compete for a role in either group if he earns a place on the active roster.

Shedeur Sanders is also part of Cleveland’s quarterback room and is listed behind Deshaun Watson on the Week 2 depth chart. Sanders did not take an offensive snap against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1. During the preseason, he completed 15 of 26 passes for 153 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions across three games. Against the Buffalo Bills, he went 9-of-11 for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Horn and Sanders already know each other well from their time at Colorado. Horn played two seasons with the Buffaloes and became one of Sanders’ familiar targets. Their connection gives the Browns two former college teammates who can now work together again at the NFL level.
Horn is now on Cleveland’s practice squad and is not guaranteed to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 20 at Raymond James Stadium. His immediate job is to learn the Browns’ system and compete for a future call-up. If he gets that chance, his receiving skills, return experience and familiarity with Sanders could all become useful parts of his role.
