Jacob Misiorowski is the frontrunner for the 2026 NL Cy Young award for a reason, as he has been elite over the course of this season for the team with the best record in MLB, the Milwaukee Brewers. But even someone as great as Misiorowski has to go through some rough patches, as he is coming off a start in which he allowed five runs to the Chicago Cubs.

On Tuesday, Misiorowski had a chance to redeem himself in another contest against the Cubs. This time around, he performed much better. He allowed just one earned run in 6.1 innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out nine. He continues to deliver straight gas from the mound; in fact, he has now thrown over 1,000 pitches at 100 miles per hour or faster this season.
Misiorowski has long been a history-maker in terms of his unprecedented ability to throw four-seam fastballs at such high velocity. But to put this feat in greater perspective, no one comes close to the Brewers ace in terms of throwing triple-digit fastballs. According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, in the pitch tracking era (since 2008), the closest anyone has come to Misiorowski in terms of pitches in the 100+ mph was Jordan Hicks back in 2018, when he threw 659 such pitches.

The difference, of course, is that Hicks is a relief pitcher, so he can conserve his ability to throw high-velocity fastballs by not pitching every single day. Meanwhile, Misiorowski has made 27 starts already this season for the Brewers with an average fastball velocity of 100.5 heading into play on Tuesday.

One can only wonder just how sustainable this is for Misiorowski, and how he’ll adjust when his fastball velocity inevitably loses a few ticks. But that is a problem for another time as the Brewers ace looks to blitz opponents and just throw pitches right by them as much as he can.
In 2026, Misiorowski now has an ERA of 1.95 in 161.1 innings of work.
