Bonnie Tyler is recovering from a scary ordeal.
The “Total Eclipse of the Heart” singer was hospitalized for an undisclosed intestine issue that required an immediate procedure, her team shared on her official website May 6.
“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” read the statement. “The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.”
“We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news,” the statement continued, “and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”
Not long before her surgery, the 74-year-old—who has been married to husband RobertSullivan since 1973—was preparing to go out on her 2026 European tour, and wanted to ensure that she would be well enough to do so.
“I’m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I’m really enjoying doing the shows,” Bonnie toldHello!in March. “I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.”
To help keep her body going strong, the “Holding Out for a Hero” singer said she was doing 20 minutes of Pilates a day, noting it was “something I can do in my hotel rooms.”
“I have had problems with my knees; I didn’t have new knees, I had what they call washouts [a surgical knee procedure], which turned out to be very successful,” she explained. “So, hopefully that will last for a long time.”

When she does make it on tour, the Grammy nominee loves to play her “old hit records” as well as her new songs,” sharing that she still records “new material because my fans cry out for it.”
Of course, when it comes to her classics, she raved, “I still love singing them.”
And having the chance to sing a song like 1983’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” is just as thrilling now as it was when she first heard the ’80s classic.
“It just blew me away,” Bonnie told Hello!. “I don’t like making videos—I prefer doing live shows—but it turned out to be magnificent. It was on heavy rotation on MTV.”
