Watch: Blake Lively Makes Surprise Met Gala Appearance Hours After Justin Baldoni Settlement
Blake Lively is starting a new chapter at Met Gala 2026.
Hours after announcing that she and It Ends With Us costar Justin Baldoni had reached a settlement in their yearlong legal battle, the actress stepped out at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 4. (Click here to see all the celebrity arrivals.)
Clad in a colorful halter gown made by Versace in 2006, Lively evoked the pastel sky depicted in Venetian Rococo paintings and Baroque churches in keeping with the night’s “Fashion Is Art” dress code.
She paired the ball gown—which featured pale purples and yellow fabrics and intricate beading on the bodice—with Lorraine Schwartz chandelier earrings baring sapphires and yellow diamonds, as well as other costume jewelry pieces as a nod to the fashion fundraiser’s “Costume Art” theme.
Indeed, the outing marked a new era for Lively, whose trial against Baldoni over allegations of retaliation and breach of contract was scheduled to begin later this month.
“The end product—the movie It Ends With Us—is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life,” Lively and Baldoni’s lawyers said in a joint statement to NBC News May 4. “Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors — and all survivors — is a goal that we stand behind.”
The lawyers said they “acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognize concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard.”
“We remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments,” their statement added. “It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment.”
Blake initially sued Baldoni in 2024, alleging that Baldoni created a hostile workplace while filming It Ends With Us and launched a smear campaign against her when she spoke up. While Baldoni denied the allegations, his countersuit against Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds—in which he alleged that the couple colluded with the press to drag his name through the mud—was dismissed in early June after a judge determined that he failed to prove the pair had defamed him.

In April, a judge dismissed most of Lively’s claims in her lawsuit against the Jane the Virgin alum, including her allegations of sexual harassment.
“The last thing I wanted in my life was a lawsuit,” Lively shared in an April 3 statement posted on her Instagram Story, “but I brought this case because of the pervasive RETALIATION I faced, and continue to, for privately and professionally asking for a safe working environment for myself and others.”
She added, “I hope the Court’s decision shows others that, as unfathomably painful as it is, you can speak up.”
