Roman Kantserov has not played an NHL game yet, but he already knows the opportunity ahead. The Chicago Blackhawks rookie hopes to share the ice with Patrick Kane and Connor Bedard once the franchise center returns from injury.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Kantserov welcomed Kane’s return to Chicago.

“Right now, Connor has the injury. It’s sad news. But Chicago signed Patrick Kane. The legend has come back. It’s awesome.”

The 21-year-old also explained why the situation excites him.
“He’s the greatest American player, all-time scorer, and this is a very good opportunity to play with him,” Kantserov said. “Of course, if we play together with Bedard, maybe we can find the chemistry.”
The Blackhawks selected Kantserov in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft. He arrives after leading the KHL with 36 goals and 64 points in 63 games last season. Chicago signed him to a three-year entry-level contract after he left Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

So, Kantserov’s arrival comes after a 29-39-14 season, where the Blackhawks ranked 30th in scoring but continued building around a young core.

Kane’s return changes more than the power play. His presence gives Chicago’s young players another elite talent to learn from every day. Bedard recently explained why he is excited to share the ice with the franchise legend.
“Everyone he’s played with, he’s made them better,” he said.

Bedard praised Kane’s unique offensive skills, saying, “Probably the best hands ever in the history of hockey and one of the best passers, some of the best IQ.”
Bedard also believes any teammate benefits from Kane’s creativity.
“If it’s me or whoever is playing on his line, it’s going to make that player so much better,” he said.

Bedard will miss the start of the season following shoulder surgery. That creates a larger role for Kantserov during training camp and the opening weeks.
Once Bedard returns, Chicago could ice one of the league’s youngest groups alongside one of its greatest veterans. Kane’s experience and Kantserov’s scoring touch should complement the rebuilding process. If that chemistry develops, the Blackhawks’ long-term outlook becomes much stronger.
