Watch: Bill Hader Reveals Hilariously Sweet Milestone With His Daughters in Rare Comment
It is fun to have fun but you have to know how, and after his latest movie, Bill Hader’s kids think he’s pretty cool now.
The Saturday Night Live alum shared a rare comment about his dynamic with daughters Hannah, 17, Harper, 14, and Hayley, 11, joking that his new animated film The Cat in the Hat led to a monumental milestone with them.
“They came to the premiere yesterday, and they really liked it,” Hader exclusively told E! News in a joint interview with costars Xochitl Gomez and Tiago Martinez. “And they were like, ‘Proud of you, Dad. It was good.’”
What’s more is the 48-year-old’s heart grew three sizes after his girls—whom he shares with ex-wife Maggie Carey—did more than just give their stamp of approval.
“I got direct eye contact,” Hader quipped. “It was huge.”
He jokingly added, “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you guys have blue eyes! I forgot.”
And while the comedian’s kids enjoyed his new paw-some role, Hader—who plays the red and white-striped hat wearing anthropomorphic cat—admitted he wasn’t their favorite part of the movie. In fact, they were “more excited” to meet his costar Gomez, having seen her waltz her way to the Dancing With the Stars Mirrorball Trophy in 2023.
“They were very, very excited,” Hader shared, leading the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness actress to refer to the praise from his daughters as “the biggest compliment.”
And as the Barry alum gets ready to turn frowns upside down when The Cat in the Hat hits theaters Nov. 6, he knows getting to voice the legendary Dr. Seuss character—while working with good friends—is not a small accomplishment, not at all.

“I just felt really honored,” Hader shared with E! News. “I just was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s such a huge, iconic character.’ And to do it with Erica [Rivinoja] and Alessandro [Carloni], which are two people I’ve worked with on other projects. I’ve known Erica for years, so it was really cool to get a chance to get to work with them.”
