Watch: Beyoncé Reveals How Daughter Blue Ivy Inspired Jay-Z’s Hair Transformation
Can’t knock the hustle of this father-daughter duo.
Jay-Z was joined by his and Beyoncé‘s 14-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter at Apple Music’s 30th anniversary celebration of the rapper’s 1996 album Reasonable Doubt in New York City June 26.
As seen in footage circulating on social media, Blue stood almost at the same height as her dad while wearing a Fear of God hoodie from the label’s collaboration with the New York Yankees, as well as light blue jeans. With her hair slicked back in a high braided ponytail, the teen completed her look with a pair of black framed glasses and a blue handbag.
Meanwhile, Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) kept it simple in a white T-shirt, black pants and sunglasses.
The “Can’t Knock the Hustle” artist styled his hair in an afro, which Beyoncé—who also shares twins 9-year-old twins Rumi Carter and Sir Carter with Jay-Z—recently revealed was a tribute to her husband’s late dad.
“Jay told me a few months ago he was planning to comb out his locs for the Philly show with The Roots. He wanted to do this in honor of his father,” the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer explained in a June 21 video posted to YouTube. “His name was Adnis Reeves and his favorite sports team was from Philly. His dad always rocked a ‘fro, so he wanted to rock a ‘fro in his honor.”

That meant spending days combing out Jay-Z’s locs, which Beyoncé said the Roc Nation founder initially started sporting eight years ago to show Blue that his hair “had texture like hers.”
“Our daughter was about 5 and she wasn’t feeling very confident about her hair at the time,” the 44-year-old shared. “When she told her father that, it inspired Jay to grow out his hair.”
“I thought it was always beautiful that the real reason Jay grew out his hair was to show Blue that her hair was like his hair,” Beyoncé added. “We really wanted her to love and embrace every inch of her gorgeous curls.”
