On Monday, the B.C. Conservation Officer Service responded to an attack on a woman in her backyard by a black bear. The woman, who was on the back deck of her home with her dog, received medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries.

The bear had left the property before conservation officers could respond.

On Sunday in Port Coquitlam, a man was bitten by a black bear outside his apartment complex. The bear, which later returned to the area, was tranquilized and taken to a compound and later put down due to public safety concerns.

On Aug. 9, three-year-old Anaiyah Lekei was attacked by a black bear while on her back patio in Maple Ridge. Her father managed to fight the bear off, and it was later killed by RCMP. Lekei was airlifted to B.C. Children’s Hospital to undergo surgery after being bitten numerous times on the head, neck and back, and is recovering from her injuries.
