Barcelona will observe a minute of silence before their Champions League encounter against Aston Villa at the Spotify Camp Nou on Tuesday evening, paying tribute to CD Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel and the victims of the deadly train accident in Urda, Toledo.

UEFA has confirmed that all European fixtures taking place this week, including matches in the Europa League and Conference League, will honour those who have lost their lives.

The gesture comes during a difficult period for Spanish football following the death of De Miguel, who passed away at the age of 30 after suffering serious injuries in a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Lázaro Owono during a La Liga Hypermotion fixture.

Barcelona’s tribute will also remember the 69 victims of the railway tragedy in Toledo last Wednesday.

UEFA has arranged for minutes of silence to be observed before this week’s European matches as football continues to mourn De Miguel’s passing.

The Tenerife forward suffered a serious impact during his team’s encounter with Andorra and was taken to hospital by ambulance after receiving treatment on the pitch.

Despite medical efforts, he died on Tuesday morning, prompting widespread condolences from clubs and organisations across Spanish football.

Barcelona had already paid their respects following confirmation of his death, joining Real Madrid and other clubs in expressing sympathy towards his family, teammates and everyone associated with CD Tenerife.

“FC Barcelona deeply regrets the tragic news of the passing of Jesús de Miguel, a player for CD Tenerife.

“Our heartfelt support and encouragement go out to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time,” read the statement from the club.

It is to be remembered that the Catalan club had already observed a minute of silence before Saturday’s La Liga meeting with Deportivo Alaves.

Similar tributes took place across Spanish football following the railway tragedy.

Meanwhile, as per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is set to publicly express his condolences before the traditional board lunch with Aston Villa representatives.
