    Watch: B.J. Novak Shares Secret to Decades-Long Friendship With Mindy Kaling

    There’s nothing B.J. Novakwon’t du-o for Mindy Kaling’s kids.

    The Devil Wears Prada 2 actor, who is godfather to his Office costar’s three kids Katherine “Kit” Swati Kaling, 8, Spencer Tracy Kaling, 5, and Anne Kaling, 2, recently revealed the gift that earned him an adorable nickname.

    “Kit nicknamed me FoFo, which is based on a Duolingo For Kids character—the bear FoFo,” B.J. explained on the April 20 episode ofWatch What Happens: Live with Andy Cohen. “So I got her a FoFo stuffed animal for her collection, and that hit the spot.”

    Mindy, who has kept the identity of her kids’ father private, and B.J. have often given insight into his bond with her three little ones, with the Mindy Project star previously calling B.J. an “important and integral part of my family.” In fact, that close dynamic has left some wondering if BJ, whom the Running Point creator has been BFFs with since dating in 2007, is really their dad.

    As for how Mindy’ reacted to that? Well, she previously told Marie Claire that the speculation “doesn’t bother me.”

    “He’s the godparent to both my kids—and they have such a great relationship—and so far [the rumors haven’t] affected my happiness at all, it hasn’t affected my kids or BJ,” she explained in 2022. “If that’s what is going to be titillating to people, I’ll take it.”

    The Never Have I Ever creator also insisted that she’ll speak about the paternity of her kids when they’re “old enough to talk to me about it.”

    “I’m the only parent my kids have,” she explained. “I think I err on the side of super cautious so that there’s less things that they can potentially be mad at me about down the line.”

    Another aspect of their dynamic Mindy hasn’t been shy to address? The reason why she and B.J. are so content to keep their relationship platonic.

    “He is a wonderful friend and he’s godparent of both of my kids and he loves children and they’re so attached to him,” she explained during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2022. “I think anyone who’s been friends with someone for 18, 19 years and at one point dated and now doesn’t, they maybe understand this.”

They’ve been tight since falling in love at first sight at the 2004 premiere of Man on Fire. “It was one of those instant chemistry things where you just feel like, ‘I love this person. I love being around this person. This person makes me laugh,'” Lopez recalled to Entertainment Tonight of her Brooklyn-bred bestie.
