A Vancouver Island man is facing several charges after police find drugs in his truck after he reported to be stunting on public roads

A Vancouver Island man has run afoul of the law after crashing his pickup truck in Colwood on Wednesday, an incident that led to his arrest and drug charges. After RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision, a witness told them the driver had been doing burnouts before crashing into a telephone pole near the intersection of Island Highway and Wale Road on Wednesday night.

Police found that driver, a 53-year-old man, had been operating the vehicle despite having a suspended driver’s licence. While he was determined to be sober through roadside checks, RCMP said it saw evidence of illicit narcotics in the truck and arrested the driver for drug-trafficking offences.

Police said a search found large quantities of narcotics, including approximately 240 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 98 grams of suspected cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia.

The driver was charged with several motor vehicle infractions, including driving without due care and attention, having tinted windows on the vehicle, and stunting. The pickup truck was also impounded.

Langley man facing attempted murder charges after arrest in Maritimes

A man police say was involved in a break-in turned violent this past March has been arrested in New Brunswick and awaiting return to face charges in B.C.

Christian James MacLean, 29, was charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, break and enter of a dwelling house, and disguising face with intent to commit an offence by the B.C. Prosecution Service on Wednesday. Later that same day, investigators from Langley RCMP’s Serious Crime Section arrested MacLean in Fredericton, N.B.

The charges stem from an incident with an unidentified victim in Langley during the early morning hours of March 13. RCMP responded to a call of an unknown man inside an Aldergrove resident, in which the resident confronted the suspect and was subsequently assaulted. Police were soon able to identify MacLean as the suspect.

MacLean appeared in court in Fredricton, and remains in custody pending his transfer back to B.C.

“As the matter is before the courts, no further details will be provided at this time,” said RCMP Sergeant Zynal Sharoom, adding the court has ordered a publication ban on the victim’s identity.

High-risk sex offender arrested for trespassing in Langley

A man who served was jailed for crimes including sexual assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and uttering threats was arrested twice in a six-day span after two incidents in Langley earlier this month.

Michael Wayne Carpenter was the subject of a Vancouver Police warning when he was released in 2020 for his past convictions stemming from crimes in 2005 in Kamloops, saying he posed “a risk of significant harm to the safety of vulnerable female children, youth, and adults.”
