Kelowna RCMP seized more than $20,000 in counterfeit Canadian currency during a raid in July, along with a “substantial” quantity of the fake security holograms believed to have been used in the manufacturing of the bogus bills.

The raid on a residence in the 3100 block of Shannon Place in West Kelowna also netted seven firearms, ammunition, and drugs police believe include cocaine, MDMA and ketamine.

One man was arrested at the residence and taken into custody. He hasn’t been identified publicly as official charges have yet to be sworn in by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

“This seizure removed a significant quantity of counterfeit currency, illicit drugs, and firearms from our community,” said Kelowna RCMP Corporal Shaun Achtymichuk. “This investigation demonstrates how crimes often perceived as ‘white-collar’ offences can intersect with the criminal underworld of drug trafficking and the illegal possession of firearms.”

A man who allegedly punched a stranger in the face on Thursday afternoon has been arrested and charged with assault.

A woman was walking near Hastings Street and Clark drive when she was confronted by a man who then punched her, leaving her with a cut on her face.

Vancouver Police located a suspect matching witness descriptions a few blocks away.

Thirty-six-year-old Kurtis Hummer has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and remains in custody pending his bail hearing.

Shooting suspect turns himself in

The suspect in a shooting just before Christmas last year has turned himself in to police and is now in custody.

Ronin Tajali, 18, was the prime suspect in a shooting in near Phillips Avenue and Woodbrook Place in North Burnaby. Police responded to a 911 call to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds, and he was taken to hospital for treatment.

A week later, on Christmas Day, charges were sworn against Tajali, but he remained out of custody. The teenager is facing charges of discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, and possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm.
