The Islanders have a new minority investor: David Shuman, founder of venture capital firm Lateralus Holdings. Financial terms and the size of his stake were not disclosed. Shuman wrote on LinkedIn that joining the Islanders ownership group “is a childhood dream come true.”

Polymarket is raising an additional $1 billion in a funding round led by Donald Trump Jr.’s investment firm, 1789 Capital. The round values Polymarket at $21 billion, a spokesperson for 1789 Capital told The New York Times. 1789 Capital previously invested in Polymarket in August 2025, and as part of that agreement Trump Jr. joined the prediction-market platform’s advisory board. Trump Jr. is separately a “strategic advisor” to Polymarket’s primary rival, Kalshi.

X-Files star Gillian Anderson is investing in Crux Football, a platform that aims to buy multiple women’s soccer clubs in Europe. To date, Crux has made two investments, in Montpellier, which plays in the top tier of women’s soccer in France, and Rosengård, which plays in the top tier of women’s soccer in Sweden. Crux is led by former New Zealand national soccer team captain Bex Smith.
