Mikel Arteta believes Bruno Guimarães is only scratching the surface of his potential at Arsenal, despite the Brazilian midfielder producing another impressive performance in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Hull City.
The Gunners secured their ninth Premier League victory in ten matches, moving six points clear at the top of the table, with Martin Ødegaard scoring the decisive goal in the second half.

While the captain understandably claimed the headlines, Guimarães was another player who caught Arteta’s attention.
FotMob highlighted the Brazilian’s impressive contribution against Hull, with Guimarães recording 111 touches, completing 86 of his 95 passes and winning two of his three tackles.
However, Arteta believes there is considerably more to come from his midfielder.
“He’s much better. He had a massive impact; he’s hitting serious levels now, but we can still take him to another level,” Arteta explained.
“That’s my conviction; I told him that in the dressing room. He owned a lot of moments in the game, but there is still much more to come.”

It’s an encouraging assessment from a manager who has consistently demanded improvement from his players, regardless of how well Arsenal are performing.
Guimarães has become an important figure in Arteta’s midfield, bringing energy, aggression and composure to a side that continues to demonstrate remarkable consistency.

Speaking after the Hull victory, the midfielder revealed what inspired Arsenal’s win against the newly-promoted club.
And although Arsenal needed patience to overcome Hull’s resistance, Guimarães played his part in ensuring the Gunners maintained control of proceedings.

What makes Arteta’s comments particularly interesting is that he clearly doesn’t consider the Brazilian’s development complete.
With Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard and other midfield options competing for places, Arsenal have considerable quality in the middle of the pitch.
But Guimarães is demonstrating why he deserves to remain central to Arteta’s plans.
If the Brazilian can find another level, as his manager believes, Arsenal’s midfield could become even more formidable during the months ahead.
Do you think Guimarães has already established himself as one of Arsenal’s most important players?
