Andrés Pérez de Lara endured a disappointing afternoon in Friday’s Love’s RV Stop 225 at Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 31st after being involved in a major accident during the opening stage. The Niece Motorsports driver started 25th and completed just 16 laps before his race ended prematurely.
Pérez de Lara entered the event hoping to secure a strong result during the closing portion of his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. However, his afternoon changed dramatically when Stewart Friesen’s Toyota became unstable while racing through Turns 1 and 2 on Lap 17.

Contact between the trucks triggered a massive accident that collected eight competitors, including several established NASCAR veterans. Pérez de Lara’s No. 44 Chevrolet sustained significant damage in the incident, preventing him from returning to competition.
The accident forced NASCAR to temporarily stop the event for cleanup and ended the opening stage under caution. Pérez de Lara ultimately finished 31st, earning just six points. The result prevented him from improving his position in the overall NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series standings. He remains 16th with 448 points, sitting 24 behind Brenden Queen.
Pérez de Lara will attempt to rebound from the early retirement and conclude his season with stronger finishes at Martinsville and Homestead-Miami.
