Watch: ‘American Idol’ Moving From Hollywood to Georgia in Major Season 25 Shakeup
Bo Bice has been rocking out with an entirely new look.
The American Idol alum, who was the runner-up to Carrie Underwood on season four, revealed his long hair is firmly a ‘do of the past, showing off his shorter hair with a pair of before-and-after photos to highlight the newest phase of his career.
In the first photo—from 2024, when Bice last released new music—the musician sported his signature chest-length brunette locks and scruffy facial hair. But now, the “Real Thing” singer is rockin’ a short and spiky hairdo with only a soul patch of facial hair on his chin.
“Ain’t it funny what 2 years’ll do in your life,” the 50-year-old, who also showcased a slimmer look, wrote on Instagram Oct. 29, promoting his upcoming single aptly titled “A Brand New Man.” “Here’s a blast from my past and a glimpse into my future with a new life, new style, but the same southern soul.”
Earlier this year, Bice shared insight into his major transformation, which included taking a months-long hiatus from social media to focus on “shaping up my body, mind & spirit.”
In his April update shared to Instagram alongside a selfie of his new haircut, he noted he had lost 89 pounds and was feeling “better, sharper and stronger.” Meanwhile, he said he was no longer drinking caffeine or alcohol and had stopped doing drugs, which had helped him get “back into a comfortable and healthy lifestyle.”
Plus, Bice addressed the hairy elephant in the room.

“Cut the hair from tail length to the short haired country boy look again,” he wrote, before quipping, “A lot lighter and I’m saving on shampoo & conditioner.”
Beyond the physical benefits of his lifestyle changes, Bice—who confirmed his breakup from his wife Caroline Bice after 21 years of marriage in June—emphasized that his new lease on life was making a positive impact on his music, too.
“Writing and practicing more than I have in years,” he shared. “The faucet is in full flow again and inspiration has returned to well.”
