Watch: Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski Break Up After 9 Years of Marriage
Amanda Seyfried is taking a chance on her next chapter.
After the Mamma Mia! actress and Thomas Sadoski confirmed their breakup following nine years of marriage, Seyfried admitted that the last month or so has been “interesting.”
“For a good reason,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview at the Academy Museum Gala Oct. 18. “I don’t know, I think everything that’s happening is meant to happen [and] everything, everyone that’s in your life is meant to be in your life. That’s just, kind of, and I’m here tonight.”
Although she’s amid a period of growth and change, Seyfried—mom to Nina, 9, and Thomas, 6, with The Newsroom alum—is not letting any part of life slip through her fingers.
“I’m meant to be here,” she explained, “and I get to go home tomorrow and I’m meant to be home and so on and so forth.”
Seyfried, 40, is also taking her inability to fully process her current life moment in stride, cheekily quipping in a comment under her interview clip on Instagram, “What AM I even saying.”
The Testament of Ann Lee actress’ update comes just over a month after she and Sadoski confirmed they had been separated “for a while” in a September statement.
“It’s proven to be the right move for us and our family unit,” the former couple said of the space they had taken. “We’ve got each other forever—and it’s GOOD.”
Meanwhile, the Mean Girls actress proved she by no means has Sadoski’s name written in her burn book, jokingly posting a photo of the 50-year-old holding a lizard the same day the couple confirmed their split, writing, “#reptiledad.”
And Seyfried has already expressed that she’s taking their new family dynamic one step at a time.

“There’s really not a difficult thing unless you decide it’s a difficult thing,” read a quote Seyfried shared to her Instagram Story last month. “Otherwise, it’s just the next thing you’re figuring out.”
Meanwhile, she can always count on her upstate New York haven as a consistent place to catch her breath—no matter what life is throwing at her.
“Staying here was the best decision for privacy, peace and nature,” Seyfried told Forbes in 2024. “It offers a more balanced life than the city does.”
