After a long and successful career that started back in 1998, AJ Styles would officially retire from in-ring action after facing “The Ring General” Gunther back at the WWERoyal Rumble event earlier this year.
Since retiring, Styles has been adamant that he is fully done wrestling and has no intention of getting back into the ring. However, you can never say never in professional wrestling, and Styles has now confirmed what it would take to see him step back in the ring.
AJ Styles would like to work with his kids
AJ Styles is a family man first and foremost, putting his wrestling career second to his life at home. The two are now starting to intertwine more than ever as AJ’s kids are starting to get in the ring themselves.
Avery Jones, wrestling as Avery Styles, made his in-ring debut a couple of months ago and has been competing on the independent scene, most recently in Game Changer Wrestling.
On The AJ Styles Show, the former WWE Champion explained he would be interested in working alongside his kids in a special referee or a managerial role at some point.
“I’ll be honest with you, I’m probably not going to come back for an indie show. I mean, even if it’s to wrestle with my boys. I probably do not want to do that. I don’t mind being a special guest and a manager kind of thing…”

Styles continues on to mention the idea of working a match against his kids and what that would take.
“But if I do come back, hopefully I’m not 60, and it’s on a big show. I would definitely- who wouldn’t? What father wouldn’t want to come back and tag with his sons? So I don’t know if that opportunity will come because it depends how long it’s going to take him.”

Could AJ and Avery be another father son duo in WWE?
There are countless wrestlers whose children ended up getting into the business themselves, many of them even working for the same promotions. However, not all of them have gotten the chance to share the ring with their family.
Dominik and Rey Mysterio are one of the rare examples of a father/son duo that competed against each other within WWE, but maybe AJ and his son Avery could follow in those two’s footsteps.
As AJ himself mentions, Avery just started his wrestling career, and no one knows exactly how long it will take for him to earn the opportunity to work in a major promotion such as WWE. But if that happens in the near future, who knows what could happen between the Styles family members.
