San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch has shared when the franchise expects head coach Kyle Shanahan to return after his recent car accident.
Shanahan was involved in a two-car accident on July 14 in Palo Alto, getting hospitalized after suffering a concussion, a broken nose, broken ribs, and an injured hand.

The head coach is still recovering from his injuries as the 49ers’ training camp starts on Monday. As everyone wonders when the coach will be able to return, GM Lynch put an end to the questions.
49ers GM John Lynch addressed the potential of Shanahan missing any regular-season games with his injuries, revealing the timeline of his return.
“That’s not what we’re anticipating. That’s not what I’ve heard from the doctors. But just like we talked about with players, the timeline kind of takes care of itself. He’s got to meet certain markers. But I think the expectation is that long before that he’ll be better.”
As Shanahan recovers, a four-man coaching group, led by assistant head coach/offensive line coach Chris Foerster, alongside coordinators Klay Kubiak, Raheem Morris, and Brant Boyer, is leading the team during this week’s training camp.

Foerster will be expected to be the de facto sideline head coach during their preseason games with Shanahan out.
The 49ers’ pre-season schedule includes three games on August 14, 21, and 28.
They’ll face the Tennessee Titans first before a matchup against the LA Chargers, and then the Las Vegas Raiders in their final preseason clash.
Shanahan could return in one of these three games if his health permits, but the franchise will hope he’s ready for their season-opening September 10 clash against title-favorites LA Rams in Melbourne, Australia.
