Following the first week of Jets training camp, here are Jets Wire’s three key takeaways to know about the team:
New York Jets edge rusher and 1st round draft pick David Bailey (31) warms up during a practice for the New York Jets at their training facility on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in Florham Park.
The Jets acquired defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick this offseason so he could be a ball-hawking leader for the team. That’s off to a good start and there is even an interception (finally) to show for it:
From the get go on Day 1 of training camp, the Jets’ top rookie draft pick in David Bailey has impressed many. Even teammates such as offensive tackle Armand Membou, who has to face Bailey in practice, has praised Bailey.
Quarterback Geno Smith did throw that interception to Fitzpatrick, but he has had positive spells of his own at training camp as well.
On Day 3, Smith had a perfect effort in team drills as he did not miss one pass. More notably, Smith and wide receiver AD Mitchell are catching a lot of eyes… can the duo keep it up? That would open things up for No. 1 wide receiver Garrett Wilson, too.
