Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, accused the Delta State Government of sending thugs to attack supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Asaba, the state capital.
Omo-Agege made this allegation in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Sunday, demanding immediate arrest of the thugs that attacked the Obidients on Saturday.
According to him, over 30 vehicles were destroyed and more than 10 supporters injured, while the police confirmed one death.
He called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Inspector-General of Police and the DSS to investigate the incident and prosecute those responsible, including the alleged organiser, Chief Uche Ndu-Okafor.
He also urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and called on security agencies to protect opposition supporters during political activities.
“The attack on the Obidients did not happen by accident. It was sponsored. The Delta State Government is behind it,” he wrote.
