The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State has expelled two former members and ex-Lagos State House of Assembly aspirants, Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, over alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty.
The state chairman of the party, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the expulsion on Wednesday, saying the decision followed the conduct of the two former members after they failed to secure the APC tickets for the Assembly election.
Egunjobi and Yusuf had contested the party’s nomination processes for Agege Constituencies I and II respectively before subsequently securing tickets to contest under another political platform. Their move to the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, had previously been reported following disagreements over the APC’s candidate selection for the two constituencies.
Ojelabi said the decision to expel them was based on what the party regarded as anti-party conduct and a breach of its expectations of loyalty from members.
According to him, party members who lose internal contests are expected to either accept the outcome or seek redress through the established mechanisms of the organisation rather than move to another political party during the same electoral cycle.
He said the Lagos APC had relied on Article 9(5)(II) of the party’s Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against the two former members.
Ojelabi further argued that any purported resignation by Egunjobi and Yusuf could not shield them from disciplinary action over conduct which the party considered to have already breached its rules.
“The APC is a political organisation governed by rules, regulations and constitutional obligations,” he said.
The chairman stressed that members were entitled to pursue elective positions but were required to do so within the provisions of the party’s constitution and applicable electoral laws.
He said the party would not accept a situation where members participate in its nomination process and, after losing, seek another platform to pursue the same political ambition instead of exhausting available avenues for redress.
The Lagos APC said the disciplinary action also came against the backdrop of the 2026 electoral framework and the obligations imposed on political parties and candidates by the Electoral Act 2026 and other regulations governing the electoral process.
Ojelabi declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the APC and therefore lacked the authority to speak for, represent or conduct any transaction on behalf of either the Lagos chapter or the national party.
He urged party members, supporters, stakeholders and the general public to take note of their expulsion and avoid dealing with either of them as authorised representatives or agents of the APC.
The chairman said the Lagos chapter remained committed to maintaining discipline, internal democracy, loyalty and adherence to its rules as the party prepares for the forthcoming elections.
“The right to contest an election does not confer the right to sabotage the Party after losing its nomination process,” Ojelabi said.
He added that the Lagos APC would continue to take measures it considered necessary to safeguard the discipline, cohesion and credibility of the party.
