Flamingos captain Azeezat Oduntan has urged her teammates to remain humble and focused despite their impressive victory over North Korea at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Flamingos stunned the defending champions 3-1 in their final Group B encounter on Friday night to secure a place in the Round of 16.
The victory saw Akeem Busari’s side finish second in Group B with six points from three matches, behind North Korea.
Oduntan expressed pride in her teammates’ determination and fighting spirit but stressed that the team must maintain its focus as the tournament progresses.
“I’m super proud of my teammates because they all came out and chose to play. We have to keep going and keep fighting. I feel excited but we are not there yet because we just qualified for the next round,” Oduntan told FIFA.
The Flamingos will now turn their attention to the Round of 16 as they look to build on their impressive group-stage performance and continue their quest for the title.
