The B.C. Wildfire Service says crews are working on the estimated 1.5-hectare blaze, which is believed to be human caused, in steep and challenging terrain.

The Maple Ridge Fire Department responded to the fire at about 6:30 p.m. near the Rock Ridge area of Maple Ridge, according to a post on social media.

No evacuation orders or alerts are in place. An out-of-control wildfire is one that is spreading or anticipated to spread.

The city is asking residents who are concerned about the smoke to close their windows and doors, and to avoid the area.

In an emailed statement, Pardeep Purewal, a spokesperson for the city, said Maple Ridge fire crews continue to respond to the fire located at the top of the Rock Ridge area along the interface of the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest.

She said about 25 personnel were working on the blaze and weather conditions are favourable. The B.C. Wildfire Service is assisting with fire suppression efforts.

At this time, she said there is no risk to the public or nearby properties, and there. have been no reported injuries.
