The goal for her session was to refresh her overall look while keeping things soft and natural. To achieve this, I introduced strategically placed foil highlights to break up the flatness and add dimension throughout her hair. Highlights are a great way to create contrast and brightness, but placement is everything. By focusing on areas that frame the face and enhance movement the result felt effortless rather than overdone.

In addition to the highlights, I applied what’s known as a base bump. This is a subtle colour technique where the natural base colour is gently lifted, usually by about half a shade to one level lighter. Unlike a full root colour, a base bump doesn’t drastically change the natural tone. Instead, it softens the contrast between the client’s natural regrowth and the lighter pieces. In Natalie’s case, this helped brighten her naturally darker base just enough to blend seamlessly with the new highlights, creating a more cohesive, sun-kissed effect.

To complete the transformation, I reshaped her cut using a slight diagonal forward blunt shape and introduced layers that encourage movement and volume. The result is a style that feels fuller, more dynamic and much more aligned with her natural texture. The added warmth in the tone enhanced her overall complexion, giving her that healthy, radiant finish.
