Tennessee (23-12, 6-8 SEC) defeated No. 8 Mississippi State (26-9, 7-7 SEC), 6-2, on Saturday at Dudy Noble Field in Starkville, Mississippi.
The Vols clinched a series win at Mississippi State.
First-year Tennessee head coach Josh Elander discussed the Saturday’s win after the game.

“We didn’t win last week, but it was good for our guys to get a series win on the road,” Elander said. “That’s something we’ve talked about a bunch with our guys, is how important it is at any point in the SEC. They can flip for the better or the worse, so that’s something that’s got to keep you working.
“This is an unbelievable environment, and for our guys to come in and throw some punches and continue to chip in some runs there late to give our pitchers some breathing room is a really good sign for this club.”
A series fianale between the Vols and Bulldogs is slated for 2 p.m. EDT on Sunday.
