Reigning Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, champions Rangers have confirmed the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta, as the venue for their opening fixture of the 2026-27 season. The Flying Antelopes will do battle with Katsina United in the matchday one fixture on their adopted ground. Rangers’ original home ground, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, is currently undergoing renovation. The Enugu-based club will also play their CAF Champions League matches in Abeokuta. Rangers will be hoping to kick-start their NPFL title defence on a positive note. Rangers won a record ninth NPFL title last season.  

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year. Fernandes won the prize ahead of Arsenal trio Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhães and David Raya. Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki were also nominated in the category. Fernandes takes home this year’s award following a season in which he broke the Premier League’s assist record. The Portuguese playmaker also won the Football Writers’ Player of the Year several months ago. Manchester City’s Bunny Shaw won the women’s category of the Players’ Player of the Year.  

Edo Queens said that the decision to select Kennedy Boboye to lead the team for the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers was a well-thought-out plan. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, has lambasted the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, over its invitation of former Liberian President George Weah to its annual conference. In a video posted on NBA’s YouTube channel, Falana alleged that Weah’s administration as Liberia’s president undermined judicial independence and disregarded court judgments. Evacuations were being ordered Tuesday in rural Texas where a wildfire has ballooned in size, burning through ranchland and forcing schools to delay or cancel classes. The fire that began early Monday afternoon has ripped through more than 78 square miles (200 square kilometers) across lightly populated areas in two counties in north central Texas.
